COUNSELLOR

About my approach to Counselling

I work holistically with a range of different counselling modalities including conventional science-based, indigenous, and anthroposophic models of health. Mindfulness, body-mind connection, and the belief that we are more than what the eye can see are integral parts of who I am and how I work. Additionally, my practice experience gives me the competence to use metaphors, visualizations and imaginations in therapy.

As a trainee psychotherapist, I am currently studying with the Transactional Analysis Institute Wellington. The aim of psychotherapy is the transformation of unconscious processes, such as conflicted or self-limiting aspects of ourselves, into a more conscious, creative, spontaneous and mature way of living. According to the International Transactional Analysis Association (ITAA), Transactional Analysis is a theory of personality and a systematic psychotherapy for personal growth and personal change.

Every human experience is individual and unique. I work relationally with presence, empathy, curiosity, and respect, adapting to my clients’ pace, and collaborating with my clients to find the right approaches to meet their needs. I am interested in how we can find clarity in our thoughts and become self-aware; how we can befriend our feelings, express our emotions authentically, and remain stable under stress even in difficult situations; and how we can connect to our will and become aware of our free choice.

About myself and my work

I spent my childhood and early adulthood in Europe and moved to Aotearoa, New Zealand, 19 years ago. I live with my Kiwi husband and the younger of my two teenage daughters. I have a Degree in Counselling and a Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy. I am a full member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors (NZAC). I am currently working towards my registration as a Psychotherapist. And I am a member of the Anthroposophical Society and of Aurora.

I have 14 years of practice experience working as a therapist with adults, and adolescents, supporting clients through stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, (complex) post-traumatic stress disorder, neuro- and gender-diversity, anger issues, mild addictive behaviour, chronic illness, grief and loss, parenting issues, phobias, difficult relationships, sexual/ physical/ psychological abuse, and emotional as well as physical pain.

Additionally, I work for Sexual Abuse HELP Wellington and Indigo House as an ACC contract counsellor. See: https://www.wellingtonhelp.org.nz/  or https://indigohouse.co.nz

as well as for Vitae as an EAP (Employee Assistance Program) contract counsellor. See: https://www.vitae.co.nz/counsellors/?location[]=9.

Please note that I am currently not able to take on ACC clients privately. If you want to apply for ACC funded sessions, you can engage with an ACC supplier (see for example links above) and follow a process that might include some time on a waiting list until the next available counsellor will see you.

I am dedicated to my own daily practice of meditation and self-care - including witnessing beauty in nature, moving, breathing, and grounding. I believe that I can only share what I experience myself and make my own.

As an active parent, I have been a Steiner playgroup leader, trustee, fair coordinator, project chair, group facilitator, and adult education provider, first with BoI Waldorf Education Trust, then with Motueka Rudolf Steiner School, and at Raphael House.

Moreover, I have studied two years of naturopathy in Switzerland, have an active interest in natural remedies and nutrition, and hold a certificate in nutrition and a certificate in massage therapy - with a sound understanding of anatomy and physiology. Alongside English, I speak fluently German and French.
